What do MADI and the Midwest have in common? They’re both so hot right now. While our current condition here at Tallman headquarters is due to something the meteorologists are calling a “heat dome”, MADI is catching attention for their efforts for build “innovative lineman tools.”
“We don’t make tools for every trade. We make lineman tools.” This is MADI’s mission statement, and it resonates with us at Tallman Equipment, where we are also laser focused on delivering the best tools and equipment to linemen.
Through a combined strategy of taking existing tools and making them better and creating new tools to satisfy a need, MADI is gaining the respect and business of linemen all over the country. Simple improvements in design and thoughtful consideration of the linework profession have lead to a product line full of must have line work tools.
The MADI 5-in-1 Slotted Insulated Big Wrench is a prime example of an existing tool (an insulated socket wrench) MADI has taken and loaded with features and improvements to the point where it is an indispensable option in the lineman tool bag.
Packed Full of Features
The first thing linemen will notice when they pick up the MADI 5-in-1 Socket Insulated Big Wrench is how light it is. MADI says that at 28oz it is up to 30% lighter than the competition. That’s the kind of weight reduction that linemen come to appreciate when they are spending long days in a bucket bolting hardware onto a utility pole.
The ergonomic handle is non-conductive with a patented design is rated to 1000V, which meets ASTM-1505. The rubberized handle provides a sure grip, especially for linemen working in rubber gloves. It also features a large lanyard hole to allow for simple attachment to a tool lanyard to ensure the wrench doesn’t go tumbling to the ground in the middle of a job.
The large reversing lever on the ratchet mechanism allows for a simple swipe of a gloved hand to switch the ratcheting direction of the wrench. The 24-tooth ratchet mechanism is built for strength and produces of torque rating over 200 ft-lbs, giving linemen the confidence to truly crank down on hardware.
As it should be with a socket wrench, the socket is the highlight of the tool. The dual sided socket head features a bolt through design freeing linemen to use this wrench on any length bolt. One side accommodates 3/4″, 13/16″, 1″, and 1-1/8″. The square head fits 1/2″, 13/16″, 5/8″, and 3/4″ hardware.
The slotted socket greatly expands the versatility of the wrench. The slot enables linemen to use this wrench on eye nuts, eye bolts, J-hooks, and even pole steps. This is all in addition to the typical hardware such as lags, nuts, and bolts the socket accommodates.
MADI constructed the socket from chrome-plated carbon steel for durability and corrosion resistance. The tool is built to take the abuse of fieldwork and keep performing as it always has.
Conveniently, the wrench comes in MADI’s distinction high-visibility green, making this wrench stand out from the crowd and show up quickly in the bottom of a tool bag or stand out in the dark when working storm response.
