Not a bad way of measuring clearances over roads and attachment heights. I do wish that there was better engineered durability. I have had two sets of these and have had them break in the same spots. I wish they would make the hook on the tip out of either a thicker, more durable composite, or just a die cast hook like what is on the Hastings Hot Stick. Not sure how it happens, but the hook breaks at the thinnest part where it is press-fit into the top section of fiberglass. The other part where these break is at the buttons at the 4th and 5th extension sections. I believe the tolerances are tighter at these sections so the whole unit is more stable when fully extended, and those tolerances put additional compression and friction on the buttons and springs causing them to fail prematurely. I know these are meant to be kept squeaky clean and stored in a nice bag, but my first set I kept as a spare and no longer required them to be dielectric and let them bounce around the truck for a couple months. After that, lots of the fiberglass had broken and rendered the device useless. My fault, but I would think they would be a little more durable than that. But overall, they are very accurate, and when the buttons aren’t stuck in the rods then it locks out very nicely, just wanting a little more longevity out of them for the price.
