What is “The 1952 Society”?

When John Tallman returned from World War II, he and some Army buddies went into business equipping linemen with all the tools and gear they need to keep the lights on. In 1952, John’s son Warren brought that vision to fruition and incorporated Tallman Equipment Company with headquarters in downtown Chicago (read more about Tallman’s history here). In the 70+ years since our founding, Tallman Equipment has  remained dedicated to our mission to be the premier outfitter for the electrical utility industry. As a part of that effort, we have created The 1952 Society to be the exclusive insider portal into the world of Tallman Equipment.

Welcome to “The 1952 Society” at Tallman Equipment – your window into the latest and greatest we have to offer.

Honoring the Legacy:

The legacy of John and Warren Tallman remains the commitment to “Do the Right Thing.” As part of that effort, we have created The 1952 Society Blog, where we share information focused on utility industry news, education, and safety. Here you will find information for storm prep, FR and AR clothing, equipotential grounding, wildfire risk mitigation, and much more. The blog is our way of consolidating and relaying useful information to anyone who could benefit from it, but the blog is just the beginning of The 1952 Society.

The Essence of “The 1952 Society”:

The real heart of The 1952 Society comes with signing up for The 1952 Society Newsletter. This is the key to obtaining insider access to all that is going on at Tallman Equipment and all the information and benefits that come with being a member of The 1952 Society. Basically, it’s like The Illuminati for linemen. The newsletter is home to new tool spotlights, featured products, new ways to get the coolest Tallman/Society swag, and our Lineman/Linewife of the Month winners.

Benefits of Membership:

  1. Exclusive Access: Membership in The 1952 Society gives you a first look at the new and innovative tools and great coming to Tallman Equipment. The utility industry is constantly innovating, and The 1952 Society is here to keep you up to date on the newest products and designs the best manufacturers in the business have to offer. We will feature all the latest and greatest from our in house brand, DDIN. The New Tool Spotlight will highlight the newest gear we offer and perhaps expose you to some new solutions to your daily jobsite challenges.
  2. Special Offers and Giveaways: At Tallman Equipment, we love showing our appreciation to those in the utility industry, and through The 1952 Society we will offer a variety of ways to get your hands on exclusive gear as well as special promotional offers. We are always working to come up with cool new giveaway items, and we want Society members to have the first (and sometimes the only) crack at them. The best part is that the first rule of The 1952 Society is: talk about The 1952 Society. The more you share our newsletters, the more sweet rewards will come your way.
  3. Recognition and Appreciation: As part of our efforts in recognizing excellence in utility work, each month we celebrate and honor a Lineman of the Month. We have a firsthand appreciation of the dedication required to do linework, and we are honored to be able shine the spotlight the too often forgotten utility workers who are out there in the field keeping the grid online. We also respect the special kind of person it takes to be married into linework, and as such, we periodically recognize a Linewife of the Month as well.
  4. Featured Photos: We love nothing more than to show off the hard working linemen, and we are always accepting line work photo submissions to share on our social media accounts (and all submissions are entered into our annual contest to be part of our yearly calendar). Show us all the challenging and exhilarating work you’re doing. Whether it is storm response or tower work, we want to see you guys in action.   One of our favorite things is spotting our tools at work in the field so please keep sending in those pictures.

Embracing the Future:

Tallman Equipment Company may have over seven decades of history in the industry, but we are far from resting on our laurels. We are always looking for new ways to serve the utility industry, whether it be in new tools or expanded services. We now offer rubber goods testing to go along with our ground and jumper assembly and repair services to make sure we can be a one stop source for all your linework needs. We are partnering with IT experts to improve the way we offer our services, and we are working with our own machining experts to improve classic tool design and offer new innovations.

Beyond its storied past and present-day offerings, “The 1952 Society” embodies Tallman Equipment’s commitment to being the best and most trusted source for tool sales, rental, and repair expertise in the utility industry. By joining forces with fellow insiders and spreading the word, you can support Tallman Equipment Company in supporting the dedicated individuals who are keeping the power grid connected. The future is bright for the utility industry, and The 1952 Society invites you to be a part of what we are trying to do at Tallman Equipment.

Conclusion:

In a world where change is constant and innovation is key, “The 1952 Society” stands as a testament to the 70+ years of dedication Tallman Equipment has shown to the utility industry. From a small operation in Chicago fulfilling a handful of orders a day to three locations across the country fulfilling hundreds of sales and rental orders each day to lineworkers around the country, the goal has always been to be the premier source for lineman tools and equipment. As an insider to Tallman Equipment, you not only honor the past but also shape the future. Join us today and know you are among fellow people passionate about linework.

P.S. Every good secret society needs a good passphrase or codeword, so if you have any ideas for a secret handshake/codeword/signal, we are all ears.
