Five Tools You Didn’t Know You Could Rent From Tallman Equipment

Tallman Equipment has been supplying power linemen with the best tools and equipment since 1952, and in that time, many of those linemen have come to rely on our rental department almost as if it is their own tool crib. There is no mistaking the advantage of having someone else take care of all the unpleasant parts of tool ownership like maintenance and storage not to mention the money savings when it comes to having access to expensive equipment you may only need to use for one job. Linemen have also come to trust the care our technicians take in cleaning and maintaining our rental inventory so that when our tools do enter the field, they are guaranteed to perform. What some of our customers might not be aware of is the extent of our rental inventory and all the ways our rental department can help get the job done.

Here are five tools you might not have known you can rent from Tallman Equipment.

Grounded Helicopter Blocks

You probably know that Tallman Equipment rents out DDIN Stringing Blocks. What you might not be aware of is the extent of our stringing block inventory. In addition to the classic universal stringing blocks (with a variety of sheave options, gate styles, and options for grounding or helicopter use), Tallman Equipment Rental has stringing blocks for all your transmission needs including DDIN Grounded Helicopter Blocks. Like all DDIN Helicopter Blocks, the grounded version features a helicopter gate arm that can be locked away as well as a built in Gold Standard grounding attachment. All DDIN Stringing Blocks utilize premium aviation grease in the ball bearings for long lasting performance. Urethane lined sleeves are standard on transmission stringing blocks and reduce wear on the conductor being pulled.

Plastic and Rubber Cover-Up

Tallman Equipment also offers plastic and rubber cover-up for your rental needs. Polyethylene line guards are a literal lifesaver in a variety of situations. Tallman carries a variety of styles from AB Chance and Hastings for application with a hot stick or by hand. Many of our customers have been finding line guards to be a useful solution when dealing with low hanging powerlines in work zones. The only real downside of cover-up is that it can be bulky and becomes another thing to clean and maintain. That is where the beauty of renting it from Tallman Equipment comes into play. Let us take care of the storage and maintenance, and you can focus on the rest of your job.

Fiberglass

In many ways, fiberglass tools are the backbone of hot-line work. Whether it is fiberglass hot arms/extension arms or fiberglass ladders, Tallman Equipment Rental offers the best options to help you get your project done. Just like with plastic and rubber cover-up, extension arms and fiberglass ladders are bulky and require a lot of storage space in addition to the required maintenance cleaning and testing. Our warehouse holds plenty of fiberglass for your next job, and our fiberglass department are experts at testing and refurbishing of all kinds of fiberglass line tools from hot sticks to ladders, and they make sure every rental item is in perfect working order before it is shipped out to your job site.

Digital Torque Indicators

One item that has become more popular in recent years is a digital torque indicator. Utilities appreciate knowing the exact torque applied when setting utility pole anchors, but often do not want to have to spend that much of their budgets on that knowledge. Enter Tallman Rental. We have the latest in digital torque indicators, featuring Bluetooth technology, that allow for remote monitoring of your anchor torque results and providing confidence to know that regardless of soil type, your anchors have achieved the proper holding capacity.

Ground Sets and Jumper Sets

One thing utility workers should never do is neglect their personal protective equipment. When it comes linework, some of the most important PPE is not what is worn on the body but what is connected to the line. Ground sets are a key layer of protection, and linemen need to be able to trust that they are in good working order. The Tallman Equipment Assembly Department is renowned for its attention to detail when building and refurbishing ground sets, and that same level of care applies to our rental inventory as well. We build and carry a wide variety of sets with various clamp styles like duck-bill and C-clamps, serrated and smooth jaws, and a range of cable sizes for whatever your grounding needs are.

Just like with ground sets, Tallman Equipment offers a variety of jumper set options to accommodate whatever hot-line scenario your crew is facing. Whether you need clear jumper clamps or duck bills or C-Clamps, Tallman Equipment Rental has the Jumper Sets that would help you get the job done without cutting the power to the neighborhood around you.

And much more…

We rent a variety of other things as well. An incompletely list includes:

  • Stringing Blocks & Attachments
  • Ground & Jumper Sets
  • Battery Powered Cutters & Compression Tools
  • Fiberglass Hot Arms
  • Cover-Up
  • Hoists
  • Grips
  • Compression Dies
  • Dynamometers
  • Pole Boss Systems
  • Tamps
  • Pole Pullers
  • Sagging Equipment
  • …and more (If you don’t see what you need, contact us.)

We are always looking to add new things to our rental inventory so if you have something you think would make a good rental item, let us know. Our goal is to do the right thing by our customers.
